SENATOR DAN INOUYE SWORN IN TO NINTH TERM IN UNITED STATES SENATE

Senator Daniel K. Inouye was sworn into his ninth term in the U.S. Senate yesterday.

Senator Inouye was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1959 and to the United States Senate in 1963.

Today, Senator Inouye was escorted down the aisle of the Senate chamber by Senator Daniel K. Akaka. The oath of office was administered by Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.

Florence (Aunty Wai) Tabag will present a Hawaiian perspective onmo`okü`auhau (genealogy) in a Puana Ka `Ike (Imparting Knowledge) lecture in Kona and an Eia Hawai`i presentation in Hilo.

Tabag will speak on Hawaiian genealogy from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 28, at the Keauhou Beach Resort, Conference Room Kahalu`u III, in Kona and from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 31, at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo, UCB 127.

Uncle Abel Simeona Lui Concerning Honuapo in Kau on the Big Island

Uncle Abel has been very active in fighting to prevent the use of herbicide and other chemicals in Kau. He has a court case that is open at the time of this video. The court case involves county officials that were spraying chemicals in March of 2010 down at Honuapo in Kau on the Big Island.

In the first clip he is performing the song he is probably remembered the most for: “Hi’ilawe”. In the beginning you will see a clip of Cyril Pahinui when he was a young man.
